SUSTAINABLE MARINE FUEL FROM CAPTURED CO2

Terraforma has been selected for the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Fuels & Products Shot award to study the production of low-carbon methanol from captured industrial CO₂ emissions at Shell’s Norco refinery in Louisiana.
The project evaluates the technical and economic feasibility of capturing CO₂ from refinery operations and converting those emissions into low-carbon methanol, a sustainable marine fuel with the potential to reduce the carbon intensity of global shipping.
Beyond the Norco project, the study is designed to help establish a replicable model for integrating industrial decarbonization with clean fuel production at refineries and other large point-source emitters across the United States.
If successfully implemented, the approach could simultaneously reduce industrial emissions, create a new source of domestically produced low-carbon marine fuel, and support significant investment and job creation in communities where these projects are developed.
